Drivers
need to log in on safeCAB at the beginning of each shift.
Having done so, all particulars of all safeCAB customer's
journey are automatically logged, providing a significant
disincentive for drivers to behave in an appropriate manner
against safeCAB members.
safeCAB can be interfaced with existing GPS
technology in cabs, allowing monitoring of journeys and routes,
providing a disincentive for taxi drivers not to take the
most direct route to the customers required destination.
Taxi drivers have no access to personal details
of safeCAB members. Additional passengers have no access to
details of safeCAB members. There is no information screen
within the cab. All information transmitted to the safeCAB
control centre is secured. Information can only be released
to the Police as required in the case of any incidents.
The safeCAB system will minimise the number
of 'rogue' operators within the Taxi industry and provide
additional security to passengers, particularly late at night.
A standard 100 point identity check would be
used at the time of application for a safeCAB card in the
same manner as security checks by banks for credit card applications.
The
issuing of cards will provide a safer environment for the
elderly and disabled passengers, improving the peac-of-mind
of these passengers and their families. This will have a flow
on effect increasing taxi use by these groups.
When a member scans their card, a voice activation
unit within the taxi states 'Passenger Accepted' or 'Passenger
Declined' in conjunction with display on the dashboard of
either a green light for accepted or a red light for declined.
Research with taxi owners and drivers has indicated
a significantly increased preparedness by drivers to work
late night shifts in cabs fitted with the safeCab system.
This will provide a benefit to passengers by allowing more
taxis to be available during these times.
Parents will also know that teenagers who hold
safeCAB smart cards are able to use taxis during difficult
hours with safety.
safeCAB will reduce incidents hostility between
passengers and drivers.
