safeCAB
provides the taxi driver with a safer workplace environment
by providing pre-entry security.
safeCAB can be used independently or can be
used to compliment existing photo surveillance equipment in
cabs, providing additional information on safeCAB customers
and creating increased prevention of violence and theft against
taxi drivers.
When a safeCAB member scans their card a voice
activation unit within the cab states 'Passenger Accepted'
or 'Passenger Declined' in conjunction with display on the
dashboard of either a green light for accepted or a red light
for declined.
"Violence is a common experience
for taxi drivers, although most incidents involve only shouting,
swearing and threats. While physical attacks are less frequent,
a minimum of one homicide a year occurs in Australia"
"Taxi drivers are 'popular' targets
because they work alone, are unprotected, accept passengers
whose attitudes to violence are unknown - and they carry
cash" - Australian Institute of Criminology report
into Violent Assaults on Taxi Drivers.
Our research indicates that drivers and passengers
and the families of both groups appreciate the additional
security and peace of mind provided by safeCAB.
Drivers will be confident to accept extra
shifts that they normally would have rejected due to safety
concerns. Incidents of fare evasion will be reduced dramatically,
and will allow drivers to make pickups in what are sometimes
considered undesirable areas. Drivers can rest assured that
all transactions that have occurred during their shift will
be collated for future reference.
- safeCAB will generate equal opportunity employment
due to its high safety component.
- safeCAB will provide a safer working environment
for drivers at all times.
- safeCAB will give the drivers the ability
to identify safe fares.
"reasons
for not reporting include perceived police inaction, time
demands to report, unknown offender whereabouts.." safeCAB
gives drivers more confidence in reporting incidents as relevant
passenger & trip data is automatically recorded.
The Australian Institute of Criminology report
into Violent Assaults on Taxi Drivers concluded, "Reduction
of driver vulnerability depends on recognition of these risk
factors, and the installation of appropriate and effective
preventive devices". The safeCAB system has been designed
with this in mind.
